Apr 22 - Limestone 9, Virginia Military Academy 8 (OT) Score by Quarters 1 2 3 4 OT F Shots by Quarters 1 2 3 4 OT F Goals Assists Goalie Saves Extra Man Opportunities GAME SUMMARY The game started with the Keydets thoroughly outplaying the Saints, jumping out to a 3-0 lead just two and a half minutes into the game. After a Limestone timeout, the Saints settled down but were still losing the territorial battle to VMI. Limestone finally got on the scoreboard with an extra-man goal from freshman Chris Campbell, off a feed from Iggy Levelev. After the goal, the game started to even out. However, the score remained 3-1 at the end of one period. For Limestone, the second quarter started almost as bad as the first as VMI scored one minute into the period to take a 4-1 lead. It wasn't until freshman, Rob Bookhamer, scored with four and a half minutes to go in the second that the Saints again pulled within two. However, two minutes later, VMI scored again to get the three-goal lead back again--a trend that would last most of the contest. Iggy Levelev scored an unassisted goal late in the second quarter for Limestone and the score was 5-3, VMI at halftime. The seesaw battled continued into the third quarter with VMI again scoring to open the quarter and again regaining their three-goal lead. The Saints would again bounce back as junior Shannon Hiteshew scored four minutes later to pull the Saints within two again. Meanwhile, Saints' goaltender, Keith Mursch kept the Saints in the contest with 16 second half saves, many from point blank range. The performance inspired the Limestone team and they began to press. However, it would be VMI scoring with one minute to play in the third to take a seemingly insurmountable 7-4 lead into the fourth quarter. However, Rob Bookhamer fed Shannon Hiteshew for a goal with just eight seconds to go in the period to pull the Saints within two, again. Limestone carried the emotion and momentum of the late goal into the fourth period. If VMI was set back by the late goal by Limestone, they didn't show it. The Keydets scored an extra man tally to open the fourth quarter scoring. Time was running out on the Saints when Chris Campbell started Limestone on the comeback trail with an unassisted goal with just under seven minutes to play. As time was running down, the Saints started to press defensively to turn the ball over and they did. The Saints defense kept giving their offense possessions, which eventually led to a VMI penalty. Rob Bookhamer scored during the extra man opportunity to pull Limestone within one. After freshman Dylan Hooker won a key faceoff, the Saints were on offense again and Danny Hart took a pass from Bookhamer and scored the game-tying goal with 1:52 to play in regulation. However, it was a last defensive stand by the Saints defense in the last half minute that put the game in overtime. In the extra period, Dylan Hooker again won a key faceoff for Limestone and the Saints were on the attack. After Rob Bookhamer dodged to the goal and caused VMI's defense to slide, he passed the ball behind the goal to Gavin Higgins. Higgins then came around the left side of the cage and scored between the legs of the VMI goalie 32 seconds into overtime. Leading the way for the Saints was Rob Bookhamer with two goals and two assists. Gavin Higgins and Shannon Hiteshew each scored one and assisted on two others. Limestone was also led by Chris Campbell who became Limestone's first 40-goal scorer and broke the Limestone single-season goal scoring record of 39 with his first period goal. With the addition of his fourth quarter goal, Campbell ended the season with 41 goals in 13 games. Limestone ended the season with school-record nine wins and a school-tying record of only four losses.
Apr 18 - St. Andrews 11, Limestone 9 Score by Quarters 1 2 3 4 F Shots by Quarters 1 2 3 4 F Goals Assists Goalie Saves Extra Man Opportunities GAME SUMMARY In the first quarter, St. Andrews scored early to take a 1-0 lead. Limestone was able to bounce back with four unanswered goals by Dan Hart, Ryan Lanigan, Matt Collins, and Chris Campbell to take a 4-1 lead. The Saints looked as though they would take that lead into the second quarter but a turnover at midfield led to a Knights goal with just nine seconds to go and Limestone's lead was only two by the end of one quarter. St. Andrews carried the momentum into the second quarter with a goal less than two minutes into the game. However, a goal by Gavin Higgins increase the Saints lead back to two and the score was 5-3. Again, the Knights pulled within one and again Limestone got their two-goal lead back with a goal from Iggy Levelev. Then, the Knights went on a late second quarter surge with three goals in the last three minutes of the half and took a 7-6 halftime lead. By the third quarter, the rain slowed both offenses down and it really took its toll on Limestone's attacking offense. This coupled with some good goalie play held the Saints offense to only one goal in the third quarter. Rob Bookhamer scored the Saints lone tally off a feed from Chris Campbell. St. Andrews scored two in the quarter, one early and one late, and took a 9-7 lead into the final quarter. In the fourth quarter, St. Andrews two early goals to take an 11-7 lead four minutes in. Limestone tried to get back into the game with goals from Matt Collins and Iggy Levelev but a late penalty on the Saints thwarted the late momentum Limestone had built. St. Andrews killed the clock and won 11-9. Gavin Higgins scored a goal and added three assists to lead Limestone. With his goal in the first quarter, Chris Campbell has tied the Limestone record for goals in a season with his 39th goal of the year. He also added two assists for the Saints. Limestone has their season finale on Wednesday, April 22nd against Division I opponent VMI in Lexington, Virginia. The Saints will be going for a school record breaking ninth win of the season.
Apr 10 - Limestone 13, West Chester 7 Score 1 2 3 4 F Shots 1 2 3 4 F Goals Assists Goalie Saves Extra Man Opportunities GAME SUMMARY West Chester opened the scoring just 37 seconds into the contest and had Limestone on their heels. The Saints quickly got back into the game and put together a string of four goals spearheaded by freshman, Chris Campbell. Campbell scored three of the four goals to put Limestone ahead for good 4-1. After the Golden Rams scored to pull within two, Campbell tallied again to give the Saints back their three-goal advantage. The period ended with Limestone ahead, 5-2. Limestone really started to dominate the game in the second quarter. A goal by junior Gavin Higgins, and two goals by junior Dan Hart within the first three minutes padded the Saints lead to 8-2. The Saints continued to put the game further and further out of the reach of West Chester with another three-goal surge led by Iggy Levelev. Levelev scored a minute after Hart's goal and then assisted a goal by Higgins midway through the quarter. Dan Hart scored his third goal of the game under two minutes later and Limestone had a comfortable lead, 11-2. West Chester would get one back before the half was over and Limestone took an 11-3 lead into the halftime break. In the third quarter, West Chester took advantage of a Limestone letdown and started to take some of the momentum away from the Saints. However, it was Limestone that opened the second half scoring, with a goal from Iggy Levelev five minutes into the third quarter. Still, West Chester continued to press. Aided by a series of Limestone penalties, the Golden Rams tried to get back into the game. That's when sophomore goalie, Keith Mursch, closed the door. After West Chester scored a minute after Levelev's goal to make the score 12-4, Mursch turned back any hopes of a comeback by turning back nine West Chester shots, many from point blank range. The third quarter ended with Limestone still ahead, 12-4. The fourth quarter was much of the same. Keith Mursch continued to shine as he turned back the Golden Rams. Mursch would end up with 16 saves in the second half, and totaling 23 for the game. The Saints again increased their lead with a goal from junior Matt Collins to make the score 13-4, midway through the final quarter. West Chester put together a string of three goals of their own late in the game, but it was too little, too late. Limestone won the game 13-7. Leading the way for the Saints was Chris Campbell with four goals, while Gavin Higgins scored two goals and added three assists. Iggy Levelev also played a big part in the win with two goals and three assists, and Dan Hart scored three times in the game. The Saints are seeded first and receive a first round bye in the Deep South Conference tournament. Limestone will play the winner of the first round game between the fourth seed and Catawba College. First round games will be played on Wednesday, April 15th. The Saints play the winner on Saturday, April 18th at 1:00PM on the campus of Pfeiffer University, the site of this year's tournament.
Apr 4 - Limestone 14, Pfeiffer 6 Score 1 2 3 4 F Shots 1 2 3 4 F Goals Assists Goalie Saves Extra Man Opportunities GAME SUMMARY In the first quarter, Limestone opened the scoring less than four minutes into the game with a goal from freshman Rob Bookhamer. After Pfeiffer tied the score two minutes later, the Saints regained the lead midway through the opening period when senior defenseman, Jason Caulder, scored to make the score 2-1. Then, the defenses took over. The score stood at 2-1 through the rest of the first quarter and into the second. The Falcon defense played firm throughout the second, only allowing a single goal by the Saints. Junior Dan Hart got the lone second quarter tally with just over three minutes to go in the half. On the other side, the Limestone defense played superbly. The Saints defense totally shut down the Falcons offense, allowing no goals and only six shots in the second quarter. The game went into the half 3-1, Limestone. Pfeiffer came out strong in the third quarter, scoring two quickly, and tied the game at 3. Limestone answered just 17 seconds later with a goal by freshman defenseman, Greg Hiltz. Rob Bookhamer's second goal of the game increased Limestone's lead back to two. Pfeiffer, again, chopped at the Limestone lead and pulled within one with six minutes to go in the third quarter. Then, the floodgates opened as Limestone scored seven goals in the last 5:49 of the third quarter to crush any Pfeiffer comeback hopes. Leading the seven-goal barrage was sophomore Iggy Levelev with three goals and an assist in the outburst. Limestone was leading 12-4 at the end of three quarters. As expected, Limestone slowed the pace down in the fourth quarter. Dan Hart scored midway through the period to further increase the lead. After Pfeiffer scored three minutes later, the two teams again traded late goals to round out the scoring. Leading the way for the Saints was the play of defensemen Ryan Lanigan, Mat Wilde, and Jason Caulder. They held a strong Pfeiffer offense to only six goals throughout the game while two Limestone long poles scored goals themselves. Sophomore goalie, Keith Mursch, had another outstanding game with 12 saves for the Saints. Offensively, Rob Bookhamer and Iggy Levelev had three goals each for the victors. The Saints return home to play West Chester University on Friday, April 10th at 2:00PM. Limestone looks to avenge last season's 9-7 loss to the Golden Rams. The scoring barrage continued until the end of the first quarter and the quarter ended with the Saints in total command, 10-0. Eight different Limestone players scored goals in the opening quarter. The second quarter was much of the same. The Saints opened the second quarter scoring just 21 seconds into the period, with a goal from Iggy Levelev, his third of the game. Wingate scored less than a minute later but by then the game was decided. Limestone recaptured their momentum quickly and went on to score the next five goals over the next four minutes. After twice exchanging goals, the second quarter ended with a goal from Gavin Higgins, his third goal of the game. The half ended with the score 19-3, Limestone. The second half became a formality. With the game no longer in doubt, Wingate opened the third quarter scoring. However, as they did in the second period, the Saints answered with a scoring surge with three consecutive goals and continued to pound the Bulldogs. After a Wingate goal at the end of the third, the score was 22-5, Limestone. Wingate finally had success in the game in the fourth quarter. They quickly scored two goals only to be answered by a goal by Matt Collins. Wingate scored again with ten minutes to go in the game to make the score 23-9. The Bulldogs would get no more. Mar 28 - CW Post 10, Limestone 5, Score 1 2 3 4 F Shots 1 2 3 4 F Goals Assists Goalie Saves Extra Man Opportunities GAME SUMMARY In the first quarter, the Saints had the early control of the game and took a quick 1-0 lead with a goal from sophomore Iggy Levelev. However, the Pioneers answered with two goals a minute apart and took the 2-1 lead. Post took control of the game but were held back by a tough Limestone defense and the play of sophomore goalie, Keith Mursch, and the score remained 2 -1 at the end of the first quarter. The momentum Post captured in the first quarter leveled off in the second. After a Pioneer goal five minutes into the second quarter, the Saints tried to regain the direction they had early in the game. Limestone managed to pull within one, with a goal from junior Gavin Higgins. However, Post answered again with a goal right as the halftime buzzer sounded and the Pioneers took a 4-2 lead into the half. Shrugging off a potential crushing goal right before the half, Limestone held off a Post attack for much of the third quarter, but they could not get anything going for themselves offensively. Post finally added to their lead with two goals and took a 6-2 lead into the fourth quarter. With the game still very much within reach, Limestone came out with enthusiasm. Gavin Higgins opened the fourth quarter scoring and the Saints had the momentum again. Then, freshman Chris Campbell scored within a minute of Higgins' goal and the score was 6-4. From there, Post held off the Limestone surge and then they scored with 8:26 to go in the game to make the score 7-4. As time was running out on them, Limestone started to play a more aggressive style of play. The Pioneers took advantage of their desperation and scored three more times to make the score 10-4. Iggy Levelev added a late goal for the Saints and the game ended 10-5 in favor of C.W. Post. Leading the way for Limestone were Gavin Higgins and Iggy Levelev, each scoring two goals. The Saints continued to pressure the Danes, but couldn't increase their lead and the score remained 2-0 at the end of one period. The second quarter was quite a different story. After Limestone increased their lead to 3-0 with another goal from Bookhamer, Albany came roaring back, scoring four unanswered goals within a 4 ½ minute span to take a 4-3 lead midway through the second quarter. Limestone's goal came when Higgins connected with Levelev again for an extra-man goal. The Limestone defense played well for the second straight game, holding a strong Knights offense for the rest of the half. The Saints put on a furious flurry just before the half, but St. Andrews goalie, Jesse Webber, came up with five outstanding saves to keep the score at 5-2 going into halftime. After they opened the third quarter scoring just nine seconds in with a goal from Campbell, the Saints seemingly had solid control of the game. However, St. Andrews came storming back, scoring four unanswered goals to tie the score at 6. Keeping their poise, Limestone regained the lead with another goal from Campbell, his third of the game, only to have St. Andrews tie the score again with 1:20 left in the third. To start the fourth quarter, St. Andrews had the momentum and used it to take the lead for the first time, scoring less than two minutes into the period. The Knights added another three and a half minutes later to take a two-goal lead and the Saints were on their heels. Limestone, for the second time in the game, regrouped and quickly put the pressure back on St. Andrews. Assists Catawba- Mike Delabar 1, Tony Fescina 1. Goalie Saves Extra Man Opportunities GAME SUMMARY The game open with Catawba briefly controlling the ball in Limestone's end of the field. However, the Saints defense was stingy from the start and they would stay that way throughout the day. After the initial push by Catawba, Limestone took control of ball and the tempo of the game. Much of the play was in Catawba's zone, but the Saints missed opportunities to score the game's opening goal. Catawba goalie, Andrew Gaunt, played brilliantly, making point-blank saves and keeping Limestone off the scoreboard. The superior goaltending made the Saints offense too precise. Limestone was shooting for corners and, in turn, missing the goal. It wasn't until 13:07 into the first quarter that the Saints scored on a goal by sophomore attackman, Iggy Levelev. Limestone would add another just 29 seconds later with a goal from freshman attackman, Chris Campbell. At the end of one quarter, Limestone had outshot Catawba 13-3, but only held a 2-0 lead. In the second quarter, the tempo was much of the same. The Saints clearly held the edge in territorial play. Junior attackman, Dan Hart, received a feed from another junior attackman, Gavin Higgins, and scored midway through the quarter to increase Limestone's lead to 3-0. However, while having the extra man, Catawba scored its first goal with 2:55 left in the half and cut the lead back to two. The Saints kept the pressure on and scored a man up goal of their own with just 13 seconds left in the half. Campbell scored the goal, his second of the game, and the Saints lead at halftime 4-1 while they outshot the Indians by a 29 to 6 count. The Saints came out for the third quarter fast, scoring two in the first three minutes with goals by Levelev, his second, and Campbell, his third. However, Catawba quickly evened the play and answered with a goal of their own to make the score 6-2. Then the Saints controlled the play again and scored another pair of goals by Levelev and junior midfielder Shannon Hiteshew making the score 8-2. Catawba added a goal before the quarter was over and the score at the end of three periods was 8-3, Limestone. Catawba quickly tried to start a comeback, scoring just under a minute into the final quarter. Limestone answered just one minute later with a fast break goal from junior attackman, Matt Collins to make the score 9-4. After that, the Saints defense, which had played so well throughout the game would give up no more. Limestone's defense smothered Catawba, not allowing them to get good shots off. When the Indians did manage to get a good look at the cage, junior goalie, Joe Bender, was there to make the save. As a result, Limestone came away the victors by the 9-4 score. Junior defenseman, Ryan Lanigan, led the way for the Saints defense with his outstanding play. Limestone also got superb play from senior Jason Caulder, sophomore Mat Wilde, and junior Mike Mercurio. Offensively, Iggy Levelev and Chris Campbell led the Saints with three goals each. Limestone's next game will be against another Deep South Conference foe, St. Andrews College in Laurinburg, North Carolina. The Saints open their home schedule against Northwood University on Monday, March 2nd at 3:00PM.
Feb 14 - Roanoke 13 - 11 over Limestone Score by Quarters GAME SUMMARY As expected, Roanoke came out of the gate playing aggressively.
