The Saints were recently presented the Henry Ciccarone Award as the Annapolis (Maryland) Touchdown Club’s College Lacrosse Team of the Year. The Henry Ciccarone award was presented to Limestone Head Coach T.W. Johnson, assistant Chris Phenicie and select members of the team last Thursday, August 15th in Annapolis, Maryland. The award is named after longtime Johns Hopkins University coaching legend Henry Ciccarone. Past recipients of this prestigious collegiate lacrosse honor include such powerhouses as Towson University, Salisbury State University, Washington College, Johns Hopkins University and the University of Maryland’s women’s squad. Limestone’s selection marked the first time in the 10-plus year history of the Henry Ciccarone Award that it was presented to a collegiate lacrosse team outside the state of Maryland. However, some 24 players on this year’s national championship team hail from the state of Maryland. For Limestone Head Coach T.W. Johnson it was indeed an honor for the program, “It is a tremendous honor for our program to have received the Henry Ciccarone Award. To have the Limestone program associated with such an outstanding coach as Coach Ciccarone, who was an oustanding coach at Johns Hopkins University is rewarding beyond words.” The coach also gave credit to longtime assistant Chris Phenicie, “Coach Phenicie has done a tremendous job recruiting in the state year in and year out, continuing our recruiting pipeline, so to speak, in a talent rich state such as Maryland.” The Saints were second in the Division II ranks in 2002 in winning percentage at .867 with a 13-2 record.
