Aug. 21, 2004 LACROSSE HIGHLIGHTS HOMECOMING WEEKEND Friday, October 1, will be highlighted by the 6th Annual Saints Club Golf Tournament at Cherokee National Golf Course. Entry cost is $75 per person or $300 for a foursome. Numerous prizes will be awarded and dinner is provided. An entry form can be found here. The Limestone College Hall of Fame will induct two very special members on Saturday, October 2. The Hall of Fame will welcome new members Michael Cerino and Michael Sessa. The Hall of Fame Luncheon will be held in Stephenson Dining Hall at 11:00 a.m. At that time the College will also honor the 2004 men's and women's lacrosse teams for their outstanding performance last season. Cost per person for the luncheon is $15. Also on Saturday, the Men's Lacrosse Alumni Game will be held at 5:00 p.m. On Sunday, October 3, the Women's Lacrosse Alumni Game will be held at 12:00 p.m. Limestone Lacrosse Alumni should be receiving information regarding the Homecoming Celebration in the mail. June 15, 2004 LIMESTONE LACROSSE CONTINUES TO GARNER AWARDS: PITTS NAMED P.O.Y. Attackman David Wooster, defenseman Clint Pitts, and specialist Nick DeLonga each earned 1st-Team All-American Honors. Attackman Nolan Heavenor took 2nd-Team honors while midfielder Robert Woody was an Honorable Mention selection. In addition, Clint Pitts, who was named Deep South Conference Player of the Year earlier this season, was named USILA Division II Defenseman of the Year and Player of the Year. Face-off specialist Nick DeLonga was named specialist of the year, and head coach T.W. Johnson was named Division II Coach of the Year. Pitts is the second Limestone lacrosse player to be named Player of the Year. Nick Carlson won the honor in 2002. No Limestone player had previously been selected as Defenseman or Specialist of the Year. 2004 STX/USILA All-Americans June 4, 2004 LIMESTONE LACROSSE WINNING NATIONAL ACOLADES The Saints won numerous individual accolades for their efforts as well. Between the two teams, Limestone had 12 All-Conference performers and 9 All-American selections. Limestone's men placed seven players on the All-DSC team including DSC Player of the Year Clint Pitts. Pitts, a defender, was joined on the first team by attackmen David Wooster and Nolan Heavenor, midfielders Nick DeLonga and Bobby Woody, and defender Nick Kobakof. Midfielder Chris Barrett was a second team selection. Wooster, Pitts and DeLonga were honored as first team STX/USILA All-Americans. Heavenor was tapped for second team honors while Woody was an honorable mention selection. The Lady Saints placed five players on the inaugural All-CVAC team. Attackers Pam Gateau and Maria Humphries, midfielders Meghan Dennehy and Summer Ferraro, and defender Michelle Lare were all first team All-CVAC selections. Ferraro was also named CVAC Freshman of the Year while Head Coach Scott Tucker was named Coach of the Year. Those same athletes were also named to the Harrow Sports/IWLCA All-Region team. Gateau, Dennehy, and Lare were first team selections while Humphries and Ferraro were selected to the second team. Three Lady Saints were named to the IWLCA/US Lacrosse All-American team. Lare was named to the first team while Gateau was chosen for the second team and Dennehy was an at large selection. Womenslacrosse.com selected four Lady Saints to its All-American team including Michelle Lare who they named Defender of the Year. Dennehy and Lare were both first team selections while Gateau and Humphries were second team selections. Summer Ferraro was selected to womenslacrosse.com's All-Rookie team. The IWLCA will honor its All-Americans at a banquet to be held Saturday, June 5 in Baltimore, MD. April 27, 2004 DSC ALL-CONFERENCE ANNOUNCED Pitts was one of seven Saints to make First of Second Team All-Conference. Mars Hill College first-year coach Brian Anken, who guided the Lions to a tie for sixth-place in the conference standings, was named Coach of the Year. Mars Hill attack man Andrew Chapman, who led the league in goals per game at 3.82, was named Freshman of the Year. The award winners will be recognized between games at the tournament semifinals Friday at Catawba College in Salisbury, NC. Joining Pitts on the First Team All-Conference squad were David Wooster and Nolan Heavenor at attack; Nick DeLonga and Bobby Woody at midfield; and Nick Kobekof on defense. Chris Barret at midfield was a Second Team choice. St. Andrews, which finished in second place in the league standings, placed five on the All-Conference squad, including midfielder Kyle Weiher on the First Team. Catawba College had four representatives, including David Dunnick on the First Team. Wingate, Pfeiffer and Mars Hill each placed two representatives on the squads. The Deep South Conference Tournament semifinals will be played Friday at Catawba College in Salisbury, N.C. In the first game, top-seed Limestone will face fourth-seed Pfeiffer at 1 p.m. In the other match, second-seed St. Andrews will face third seed Catawba at 4 p.m. The all-conference team and award winners will be recognized between games. The Deep South Conference Tournament finals will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Catawba College. April 27, 2004 DSC ALL-TOURNEY TEAM ANNOUNCED Limestone midfielder David Wooster (Annapolis, MD) was named tournament MVP. Wooster had four goals and three assists in the championship game (a 14-6 win over Catawba). He also scored 7 goals in the semi-final matchup with Pfeiffer. Midfielders Nick DeLonga (Silver Springs, MD) and Nolan Heavenor (Victoria, BC), defender Clint Pitts (Germantown, MD), and attackman Roger Vyse (Six Nations Reserve, Ontario) each joined Wooster on the All-Tournament Team. Rounding out the team were Catawba's, Jason Windett, Justin Garrison, and Frank Fish as well as St. Andrews' Jimmy Herberson and Pfeiffer's Brian Palmer.
March 10, 2004 ZENTZ AWARDED DSC HONOR Kyle Zentz, a junior midfielder, had three goals on three shots in Limestone's 11-8 win over seventh-ranked Dowling. Zents scored the first goal of the game, then added his second during a four-goal rally in the second quarter that tied the game at 6. His third goal came in the fourth quarter after Dowling had cut Limestone's lead to 9-8. December 18, 2003 CARLSON SELECTED IN MLL DRAFT Gaffney, SC... The Major League Lacrosse outdoor league held its annual draft on Thursday, December 18. Former Saint, Nick Carlson was selected in the third round by the Baltimore Bayhawks. The Bayhawks took Carlson with the 17th overall pick in the draft. Carlson, who graduated from Limestone College in 2002, was a three-time All-Deep South Conference selection and two time Conference Player of the Year for the Saints. Carlson also eaned USILA Division II All-American honors three times and was selected as an Academic All-American in his senior year. For full draft results pleas visit www.majorleaguelacrosse.com August 28, 2003 SPILKER GOING PRO Gaffney, SC... - Former Limestone College men's lacrosse player Devan Spilker was drafted with the second pick in the sixth round by the Colorado Mammoth of the National Lacrosse League. Spilker was the 55th overall pick in the draft which took place Saturday, October 25. Spilker was a four year starter for the Saints. In his tenure at Limestone, he helped lead the team to four Deep South Conference Championships and two national titles. Spilker is the all-time leader in points (293) and assists (134) for the Saints. Last season he led the team in shots (148), goals (42), assists (39), and points (81) while picking up 47 ground balls. Spilker won many accolades while at Limestone. He was a four-time All-Conference player, and was named Freshman of the Year in the Deep South and MVP of the conference tournament as a junior and senior. He was named 2nd Team All-American as a junior and 1st Team All-American as a senior. He also earned MVP honors in the 2002 NCAA Division II National Championship Game. "I'm very excited," said an enthusiastic Spilker. "This has been a dream of mine. I couldn't be happier to go to Colorado. They have an excellent team and a great fan base." The National Lacrosse League has been in operation since 1986. Since then it has grown from four teams to its current roster of ten teams. Spilker will play for the Colorado Mammoth which had their inaugural season in 2003 and routinely drew sellout crowds. "We are all happy for Devan," said Limestone Head Coach T.W. Johnson. "His hard work and dedication is a major reason why Limestone Lacrosse has been very successful over the past four years. Having one of our student-athletes play professionally is a tribute to the individual, the program, and Limestone College." August 30, 2003 2002-03 DEEP SOUTH LACROSSE CONFERENCE COMMISSIONER’S HONOR ROLL ANNOUNCED Gaffney, SC... The 2002-03 Deep South Lacrosse Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll was announced from the DSC office Thursday, recognizing student-athlete excellence within the league’s sports program. The DSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll recognizes those student-athletes who are at least sophomores and carry at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average. There were 20 student-athletes on this year’s Honor Roll, representing nine U.S. States, two Canadian provinces and one foreign country. Limestone College, the DSC regular-season and tournament champions, led the way with five honorees. St. Andrews College placed four on the list, while Lees-McRae had three. Catawba College, Mars Hill College, Pfeiffer University and Wingate University each placed two on the list. The Deep South Conference is in its tenth year as a lacrosse league and sixth as a fully sanctioned NCAA DII Conference. The league consists of Catawba College (Salisbury, N.C.), Lees-McRae College (Banner Elk, N.C.), Pfeiffer University (Misenheimer, N.C.), St. Andrews College (Laurinburg, N.C.), and Wingate University (Wingate, N.C.). Queens University (Charlotte, NC) will join the conference for the 2003-04 season. The Deep South Conference is a premier lacrosse league in the South, with Limestone winning the DII National Championship in 2000 and 2002, and dedicated to the highest quality of competition and sportsmanship. |
