May 7, 2006 - LIMESTONE LOSES TO MERCYHURST ANNAPOLIS, MD: — The No. 10 Limestone College men’s lacrosse team lost to No. 3 Mercyhurst, 9-5, on Sunday afternoon at Broadneck High School. The Saints fall to 11-6 overall this spring. The loss ended a six game winning-streak for Limestone. While Mercyhurst gained a 4-0 lead in the first quarter, the Saints recovered to tie the score, 4-4, at halftime. The Lakers scored four unanswered goals while Limestone scored one towards the end of the game. Brad Patridge (Dublin, Ohio) had two goals and an assist for Liemstone, while Colin Bell (Victoria, British Columbia, Canda) had a goal and an assist. Harley Beekman (Amsterdam, N.Y.) and Drew Comeau (Red Deer, Alberta, Canada) also tallied goals. Limestone awaits to hear if the team has been selected to advance to the NCAA tournament. That announcement will be made on Sunday night on the CSTV selection show. April 23, 2006 - LIMESTONE MEN'S LACROSSE WINS 8TH CONSECUTIVE DEEP SOUTH CONFERENCE TITLE CHARLOTTE, N.C: — The No. 10 Limestone men's lacrosse team won its eighth consecutive Deep South Conference title with a 14-9 win over Queens on Sunday at Memorial Stadium. The championship win is the ninth time overall Limestone (11-5 overall) has won a conference championship in lacrosse. Limestone took a 5-2 lead in the first quarter and built an 8-3 advantage over Queens heading in to the second half. Limestone continued to dominate, scoring six goals in the third quarter to put the score at 14-6. The Saints didn’t score in the final period, while the Royals managed three goals.
2006 Deep South Conference Champions Brad Patridge (Dublin, Ohio) led the Saints with four goals, while Drew Comeau (Red Deer, Alberta, Canada) had three. Harley Beekman (Amsterdam, N.Y.) scored a pair while Alex Callihan (Centreville, Md.), Ryan Verrilli (Manassas, Va.), Brad Stelter (Syracuse, N.Y.), Ryan Collins (Black River, N.Y.) and (Victoria, British Columbia, Canada) also had goals. Callihan, Comeau, Patridge, Collins, Bell and Greg Kackinko (Alpharetta, Ga.) tallied assists. Goalkeeper Marty Ward (Syracuse, N.Y.) had 15 saves. ANDREWS; SAINTS QUEST FOR 8TH CONSECUTIVE DEEP SOUTH TITLE CONTINUES CHARLOTTE, N.C: — Limestone College men’s lacrosse team beat St. Andrews, 12-9, in the semifinals of the Deep South Conference tournament at Memorial Stadium to advance to the championship match on Sunday at 2 p.m. The Saints climb to 10-5 overall while St. Andrews stands at 8-7. Limestone was led in scoring by Pat Beall (Mt. Airy, Md.) and Greg Kackinko (Alpharetta, Ga.) who had three goals each. St. Andrews took an early 4-1 lead, but Limestone had five consecutive goals to take the final lead of the game in the second period. In the third quarter, St. Andrews had 3-0 run to cut the Saints’ advantage to 10-9. Limestone managed two more goals in the remaining minutes of the game for the 12-9 victory. The Knights out shot the Saints, 35-27 for the game, with Limestone goalkeeper Marty Ward (Syracuse, N.Y.) recording 12 saves. Nate Hull, St. Andrews’ freshman goalkeeper, had eight saves. Limestone looks to secure its eight consecutive (ninth overall) conference title when it plays the winner of the Wingate-Queens game on Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Deep South Conference Championship game at Memorial Stadium in Charlotte, N.C. April 18, 2006 - SAINTS ADVANCE IN DEEP SOUTH TOURNAMENT WITH 19-11 WIN OVER MARS HILL GAFFNEY, SC: — The Limestone College Saints lacrosse team advanced to the semifinals of the Deep South Conference tournament with a 19-11 win over the #5-seeded Mars Hill. Mars Hill ends its season with a 10-5 record while Limestone improves to 8-5. Limestone scored in the game’s first possession. The Saints had a 3-0 lead in the first period before the Lions’ Andrew Chapman scored his team’s first goal with 2:38 left to play. The Saints entered the second period with a 3-1 lead and ran away with the lead, outscoring the visitors, 7-3 in the second period. By the end of the first half of play, Limestone had out-shot Mars Hill, 32-13. With the score 9-4 at halftime, Limestone began the second half with a 5-0 run. Mars Hill found a spark in the last few minutes of the third quarter, scoring three back-to-back goals. Mars Hill and Limestone each had four goals in the final period. Mars Hill scored the first less than a minute into the quarter, and scored three points in the final four minutes, but couldn’t overcome Limestone’s double-digit lead. The Saints had 26 shots in the final 30 minutes of play compared to the Lions’ 16. Derek Franzen (Mansfield, Mass.) led the Saints with four goals, while Harley Beekman (Amsterdam, N.Y.) and Pat Beall (Mt. Airy, Md.) each had three. Greg Kacinko (Alpharetta, Ga.) and Ryan Collins (Black River, N.Y.) scored two goals each, while Brad Patridge (Dublin, Ohio), Ryan Verrilli (Manassas, Va.), Scott Bailey (Calgary, Alberta, Canada), Neil Harris (Pasadena, Md.), and Jason Brammall (Melbourne, Australia) also put points on the board. Mars Hill had four goals apiece from Andrew Chapman and David Kemp. Goalkeeper Matt Holthaus had 16 saves. Limestone will play #1-seed St. Andrews on Friday, April 21 at 5 p.m. in Charlotte, N.C., at Memorial Stadium at 5 p.m. in the Deep South tournament semifinals. April 15, 2006 - No. 10 SAINTS LACROSSE FLYS BY PFEIFFER ON SENIOR DAY GAFFNEY, SC: — The Limestone College men’s lacrosse team flew by the visiting Pfeiffer Falcons with an 11-3 win on Saturday. Limestone climbs to 8-5 overall (7-2 Deep South Conference) while Pfeiffer stands at 3-9 overall (3-6 DSC). It was also Senior Day for Limestone, as the team recognized Pat Beall, Harley Beekman, Grey Campbell, Ryan Demorest, Mike Freudiger, Brad Patridge, and Drew Walters. Brad Patridge (Dublin, Ohio) and Ryan Verrilli (Manassas, Va.) gave Limestone the 2-0 lead in the first period. In the second period, Harley Beekman (Amsterdam, N.Y.) scored off the opening face-off for the 3-0 lead. Alexander Daskalow put the Falcons on the board off a pass from Tyler Merrimac for the 4-1 score entering halftime. In the second, Beekman scored his second goal of the game, followed by Verrilli’s second goal. Patridge went on to score two goals in a row to put the score at 7-1. Scott Bailey (Calgary, Alberta, Canada) scored off a pass from Greg Kacinko (Alpharetta, Ga.) and Brock Spilker (Pasadena, Md.) had a goal with Beall picking up the assist. Falcon Eddie Gourley scored with 17 second left to put the score at 10-2 at the end of the third quarter. The Saints had one more goal in the final period, as Brian Zagardo (Westbury, N.Y.) scored his first collegiate goal off a pass from Spilker. For the game, Pfeiffer goalkeeper Chip Baucom posted 30 saves as he faced 55 shots from the Saints. Limestone competes in the first round of the Deep South Conference tournament on April 18. April 8, 2006 - SAINTS UPSET WHEELING JESUIT 13-5 GAFFNEY, SC: — The Limestone College men’s lacrosse team upset No. 10 Wheeling Jesuit, 13-5, on Saturday afternoon. The win marks the first victory over a ranked opponent for the Saints this season while ending the Cardinals’ six-game win streak. Limestone jumped out to an early 5-1 lead in the first quarter, allowing only one Cardinal goal and ended the quarter with a 6-1 advantage. The Saints outscored the visitors, 5-1, in the second quarter to enter the second half up 11-2. Wheeling Jesuit’s defense held the Saints’ attack to only two goals in the second half, as the Cardinals rallied to score three more goals in the final quarter. The Saints had 37 shots compared to the visitors’ 30 for the match. Drew Comeau (Red Deer, Alberta, Canada) led Limestone with six goals. Mike MacLeod (Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada) and Brock Spilker (Pasadena, Md.) each scored twice, while Pat Beall (Mt. April 5, 2006 - SAINTS LACROSSE EDGES ST. ANDREWS, 9-8 LAURINBURG, NC: — The Limestone Saints lacrosse team picked up a 9-8 win over Deep South Conference-rival St. Andrews on Wednesday evening. Limestone climbs to 6-2 in conference play and 6-5 overall, while the Knights even their record to 6-6 overall (6-2 DSC). Brock Spilker (Pasadena, Md.) scored the game-winning goal for Limestone with 49 seconds left to play. He tallied another goal with an assist for a team-high three points for the match. Brad Patridge (Dublin, Ohio) and Drew Comeau (Red Deer, Alberta, Canada) each scored a pair, while Mike MacLeod (Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada), Harley Beekman (Amsterdam, N.Y.) and Neil Harris (Pasadena, Md.) scored once. April 1, 2006 - SAINTS FEEL BULLDOGS’ BITE; LIMESTONE LOSES TO WINGATE, 16-11 SALISBURY, NC: — The Saints lacrosse team lost a tough game to conference-rival Wingate University on Saturday at Saints Field, 16-11. The Bulldogs’ climb to 7-3 overall and 5-1 in Deep South Conference play, while Limestone stands at 5-5 overall (5-2 DSC). While Limestone got off to a solid start with Harley Beekman (Amsterdam, N.Y.), scoring the game’s first goal off the opening face-off, and Ryan Verrilli (Manassas, Va.) scoring less than a minute later, the visitors answered with three back-to-back goals. Both teams ended up with three goals in the first period, but Wingate gradually pulled away in the second, outscoring Limestone, 3-2. The Bulldogs had 10 goals to Limestone’s six in the remaining two periods for the win. For the Saints, Verrilli had three goals, as Brad Patridge (Dublin, Ohio), Mike MacLeod (Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada), and Beekman each scored two. Limestone travels to Laurinburg, N.C., to play St. Andrews on April 5 at 6 p.m. March 25, 2006 - LIMESTONE MENS WIN 18-9 OVER CATAWBA SALISBURY, NC: — The Limestone College men’s lacrosse team defeated conference-rival Catawba, 18-9, on Saturday afternoon. The Saints improve to 5-4 overall and 5-1 in Deep South Conference play, while Catawba falls to 2-6 overall (2-4 DSC). Limestone out-shot the Indians, 41-29, and had 49 groundballs compared the hosts’ 30. Both teams were even in face-offs, winning 15 a piece. Drew Comeau (Red Deer, Alberta, Canada) led the Saints with five goals. Harley Beekman (Amsterdam, N.Y.), Neil Harris (Pasadena, Md.), Pat Beall (Mt. Airy, Md.), and Derek Franzen (Mansfield, Mass.) each scored a pair. March 22, 2006 - SAINTS SNAP LOSING STREAK WITH 9-5 WIN OVER BELMONT ABBEY BELMONT, NC: — The Limestone College men’s lacrosse team snapped its four-game losing streak with a 9-5 win over conference-rival Belmont Abbey on Wednesday. Limestone climbs to 4-4 overall and 4-1 in Deep South Conference play while the Crusaders fall to 3-5 overall (1-4 DSC). Limestone had a 32-21 shot advantage over Belmont Abbey, while Crusaders goalkeeper Mark Kelske recorded 15 saves, with 11 of those coming in the first half. Drew Comeau (Red Deer, Alberta, Canada) led the Saints with three goals and three assists. The Saints travel to Salisbury, N.C., to face Catawba on March 25 at 2 p.m. March 19, 2006 - ADELPHI TOO MUCH FOR LIMESTONE BROOKLANDVILLE, MD: Adelphi’s men’s lacrosse team proved to be too much for Limestone as the Saints suffered their fourth consecutive loss, 16-6. Limestone falls to 3-4 overall while Adelphi improves to 4-1. While the Saints and Panthers each had two goals in the first period, Limestone couldn’t contain Adelphi’s scoring in the remaining quarters, as the Saints were outscored 14-4 in the last three periods. Adelphi recorded 48 shots for the game while the Saints posted 22. Limestone goalkeeper Marty Ward (Syracuse, N.Y.) had 18 saves for the match, while Brian Volpi had eight. Limestone’s Drew Comeau (Red Deer, Alberta, Canada) had three goals, Brad Patridge (Dublin, Ohio) had two, and Brock Spilker (Pasadena, Md.) scored one. Limestone travels to Belmont Abbey in Belmont, N.C., for a game on March 22 at 3 p.m. March 11, 2006 - No. 7 LIMESTONE MEN’S LACROSSE SUFFERS THIRD LOSS OF THE SEASON MYRTLE BEACH, SC.: The No. 7 Limestone men’s lacrosse team lost to No. 8 Dowling on Saturday afternoon, 13-7. The Saints fall to 3-3 overall while Dowling remains unbeaten with a 2-0 record. The loss marks only the second time Limestone has lost the North-South Sportsmanship Cup. The North-South Sportsmanship Cup is a series between Dowling and Limestone that began in 1996 and ran through 2000. The Saints and Lions did not face each other from 2001-2003. The competition was renewed in 2004, and the Saints have now won the trophy six of the eight years of the contest. Dowling's only other win in the series came in 1998. Limestone plays Adelphi on Sunday, March 19 at 2 p.m. at St. Paul’s High School in Brooklandville, Md. March 8, 2006 - SAINTS STREAK ENDS AT 64 CHARLOTTE, NC.: The No. 5-ranked Limestone men's lacrosse team's record-setting 64-game conference win streak was brought to an end as the Queens University Royals upset the Saints, 13-5. The Saints fall to 3-2 overall (3-1 Deep South Conference) while Queens' record climbs to 2-1 overall and 2-1 in conference play. Limestone travels to Myrtle Beach, S.C., on Saturday, March 11 to play No. 8 Dowling at 2 p.m. March 4, 2006 - FLURRY OF GOALS DEFEATS SAINTS DULUTH, GA.: In their first big test of the season, the No. 4-ranked Limestone College men's lacrosse team fell to No. 1 LeMoyne College, 13-4, on Saturday afternoon at Northview High School Stadium. The Saints suffer their first defeat of the year (3-1 overall record) as the Dolphins collect their first win of 2006. LeMoyne out-shot the Saints, 41-16, while Limestone goalkeeper Marty Ward (Syracuse, N.Y) recorded 16 saves and Dolphins goalkeeper Jared Corcoran posted seven. Each team won 10 of the games' 20 face-offs. Ward had some key saves for Limestone early in the first half. Junior Ryan Collins (Black River, N.Y.) put the Saints on the board with four minutes left in the first period with an unassisted goal. Sophomore Brock Spilker (Pasadena, Md.) put Limestone up 2-0 early in the second period with a pass from behind the goal by senior Pat Beall (Mt. Airy, Md.). Jason Longo responded with a goal for LeMoyne with two minutes remaining in the period cut the score to 2-1. In the second half, Craig Roseanne got another point for the Dolphins early in the third quarter. The Saints answered with a goal by Brad Patridge (Dublin, Ohio) off a pass from Sean Flynn (Baltimore, Md.) Longo tied up the game with a goal minutes later, and Nate Evans scored the go-ahead goal for LeMoyne with 7:42 left in the third period to put the Dolphins up 4-3. Back-to-back goals by Longo and Tyler Hill (assisted by Chris Moore), gave LeMoyne the 6-3 lead. Limestone's Harley Beekman (Amsterdam, N.Y.) brought the score up to 4-6 with 30 seconds left in the period, but Brian Welch had another Dolphins goal with 10 seconds left. Matt Cassalia scored off the face-off with four seconds left in the period for the 8-4 lead entering the final quarter. LeMoyne's Mike McDonald scored with roughly seven minutes left in the game as the Saints goalkeeper was out of the crease, allowing McDonald's shot on the lone Limestone defenseman. Brian Cost put the score up 10-4 with four minutes left. The Dolphins had another seconds later scored by Travis Tarr, the 2005 NCAA Division II player of the year. McDonald passed the ball to Ed Street to bring the score to 12-4.Andrew Carducci scored the final goal for LeMoyne in their 13-4 defeat of the Saints. March 1, 2006 - SAINTS ROLL OVER LEES-MCRAE, 23-1 GAFFNEY, S.C.: The No. 4 Limestone College men’s lacrosse team rolled to a 23-1 win over Lees-McRae in Deep South Conference action on Wednesday afternoon. The Saints climb to 3-0 overall and 3-0 in conference play while the Lees-McRae falls to 0-3 overall and 0-3 in the Deep South. The Saints recorded 62 shots compared to nine from the visitors and scooped up 31 ground balls compared to visitors’ two. Sean Flynn (Baltimore, Md.) led Limestone with four goals, while Mike MacLeod (Owen Sound, Ontario) and Ryan Verrilli (Manassas, Va.) added three each. Pat Beall (Mt. Airy, Md.), Harley Beekman (Amsterdam, N.Y.), Brad Patridge (Dublin, Ohio), and Brock Spilker (Pasadena, Md.) each had two goals in the win. Beall had a team-high three assists, with Ryan Collins (Black River, N.Y.), Patridge, and Verrilli each recording two. The Bobcats’ lone goal was scored by Tyler Stieber (Charlotte, N.C.) in the third period. Limestone returns to action on Saturday, March 4 in Duluth, Ga., at Northview High School when the Saints take on No. 1-ranked LeMoyne at 1 p.m. February 25, 2006 - LIMESTONE MEN’S LACROSSE WINS HOME OPENER GAFFNEY, S.C.: The Limestone College men’s lacrosse team won its season opener, 10-6, over conference-rival Mars Hill. The Saints improve to 2-0 overall for the season (2-0 Deep South Conference) while handing Mars Hill its first loss of the year (3-1 overall/2-1 DSC). Limestone out-shot the visitors 46-11, while both teams had 18 ground balls. The Saints’ Pat Beall (Mt. Airy, Md.) led the team with three goals, while Brock Spilker (Pasadena, Md.) had a game-high five points with two goals and three assists. Jason Rudolph (Cordova, Tenn.) also had two goals in the win. Brad Patridge (Dublin, Ohio), Derek Franzen (Mansfield, Mass.) and Neil Harris (Pasadena, Md.) also scored. Goalkeeper Marty Ward posted five saves for the contest. Mars Hill saw two goals each from Andrew Chapman (Toronto, Ontario) and Miles Robinson (Hicksville, N.Y.). Sean Haddow (Marietta, Ga.) and David Hodgins (Windsor, Ontario) each recorded another point. Goalkeeper Matt Holthaus recorded 10 saves in the contest. February 17, 2006 - NO. 4 LIMESTONE WINS SEASON OPENER, 27-1, OVER PRESBYTERIAN CLINTON, S.C.: The No. 4 Limestone men’s lacrosse team won its season opener, 27-1, over Presbyterian in Deep South Conference action on Friday afternoon. Sixteen of the Saints scored, with seven of those having two or more goals. The Saints built a 5-0 lead after the first period and had an 11-0 advantage heading into halftime. After the half, Limestone scored nine more goals in the third period. The Blue Hose managed a goal in the third, while the Saints answered with seven more goals in the last period for the 27-1 win. Limestone forced 31 turnovers and won 18 of 28 face-offs and out-shot Presbyterian, 54-10. Limestone returns to action on February 25 when they hosts Mars Hill in Gaffney, S.C., at 2:30 p.m. |
